We all want to lose weight and get in shape, but this is often much easier said than done. Whether it be not having enough time in the day, a hectic schedule, bouncing between work, home, and events for your kids, we all come up with reasons for not making fitness a priority.
For some of us though, it finally clicks, and when it does you will want to have the right fitness equipment for reaching your goals.
Whether you’re working out at home, or the gym, picking the right machines or exercises is a major key to success.
With that in mind, here are a few factors to consider when you decide which machine or workout to go with.
What’s Your Goal?
The first thing you will want to figure out is the main goal of your workouts. Do you want to lose fat? Build muscle? Get in cardiovascular shape? Depending on what you want to accomplish, you will want to pick something different for each objective.
If your main goal is to lose weight, then you will probably want to with a cardio intensive program. There are also machines out there like the Max Trainer from Bowflex (Read more about it at Flex Master General) that provide more of a full body cardio workout, so you can lose weight while also toning up. This machine is actually one of my favorites and one I recommend checking out if you’re looking for more of an all-in-one type of fitness machine.
Beyond that, your standard treadmills, ellipticals, or bikes are great options for getting an excellent cardio workout.
Some types of weight training can also help with weight loss, in which case, a home gym or free weights are great options for building lean muscle, burning fat, and helping accelerate your weight loss.
If you’re looking to bulk up, then you will want to find weights or a home gym for some steady weight lifting. Of course, it is still probably a good idea to mix some moderate cardio into your routine as well, just to help build a more well-rounded workout routine. Keep in mind, that you can still bulk up and build muscle while mixing in cardio, and a good option for this could be as simple as just walking on the treadmill.
Ultimately, you’ll have to decide if you want to use free weights or if you prefer the home gym style of workouts. Again, Bowflex has great options for these, as do plenty of other brands out there, so just find one that works for you and go for it!
At the end of the day, the most important thing is to identify your goal, and then just go with it! Get in the gym, or outside and start losing weight, getting in shape, and getting healthy! It’s smart for your long term health, and you pretty much always feel better after working out! Of course, check with your doctor before starting any exercise routine, just to make sure you’re healthy enough for it.
